I went to the Bridgerton Ball in Washington, D.C. last night and it was sooo fun. I went with a good girl friend, and as we expected the attendance was 98% female. Lol. The few men there mostly came with women and were significant others or friends.
The location was in a pretty odd location not really near anything. If you end up going, there is ample parking and I would recommend driving because Ubers were getting very confused/unable to find the location. When we walked in we had no clue what to expect. Most people tried to dress the part, so that was fun that we all fully embraced the experience.
When we walked in there was wisteria hanging from the ceiling and a footman handed us the latest copy of Lady Whistledown. We got drinks at the bar that had cocktails with Bridgerton-inspired names. They had a good amount of alcohol in them and weren’t too over-priced. There were different Bridgerton scenes, like the Queen’s Throne and the Modiste.
We sipped on our cocktails and did a lot of people watching. The Queen eventually came out and if you so dared, you could present yourself to the Queen, just like in the show. People rushed to get in line to present themselves. I got in line and practiced my best curtsy before it was my turn to shine. I figured the Queen would keep her eyes peeled for the Diamond of the season and I was hoping to be the Diamond. But I had some competition…there was a girl in a slinky body hugging cream dress who was posing by every possible structure possible and trying to be the center of attention. I’m more reserved. Anyways, I gave my best curtsy (see the video above) and after was given a card from a footman which essentially said the Queen was impressed and to continue to impress, perhaps on the dance floor. At first I though I was special, but realized everyone who presented themself to the Queen was given the card. Haha. People then started to dance. A little while later a big red curtain int he back of the room opened and we were told to follow the Queen, who had gone in that direction.
We were met by a checkered dance floor. Two dancers came out and did beautiful routines. By that time my feet unfortunately started to hurt (it was the first time I had worn the shoes and while they had been comfortable when I first tried them on and for the first hour, things quickly turned. I still stayed on my feet when a woman came out dressed oddly and at first I wasn’t sur what was going on. It turned out she was supposed to be a bee. She led a pretty bizarre dance/routine that we participated in. Curtains then began to fall from the ceiling and the dancers began to dance with those. After the dancers were done, the attendees were then taught a simple dance routine. Unfortunately, by that point my feet really ached and I had to take a seat. Well, that was the perfect opportunity to take advantage and she made sure to be in the middle of the dance floor and continue to try and gain the attention of the whole room.
Not surprisingly, when it was announced that it was time for the Queen to pick her Diamond, the girl in the cream dress was pointed to by the Queen and she walked to the center of the dance floor and glitter fell all around her. She put in the work, but I was still salty. After that, my friend and I took pictures with some of the footmen. Single Ladies (a VERY appropriate song) started to play and then the many women in attendance began to dance to it. The event was pretty much over at that time.
We then grabbed our coats and went to check out the merch. I got a very cute mug, tiara, fan, and tote bag (the tote bag was super over priced-$20), but necessary since they did not have plastic bags, so I would have had to carry everything in my hand. These were just the highlights. I’m not saying everything in case you are reading this and plan on attending yourself. All in all, it was a VERY fun experience and I’m glad I went.
If you go, leave a comment with what you thought of the experience.
